| Increased Efficiency |
Faster and safer than traditional methods. It requires only one person to un-cable a center beam railcar without leaving the forklift. |
| Cost vs. Insurance Claims |
Accidents lower company morale. The cost of a potential claim is much greater than the cost of a Cable Dominator. |
| Avoid Negligence |
Knowingly asking an employee to go on top of a railcar can be avoided. Placing a Cable Dominator in all location and making it company policy to use it every time, will eliminate violating OSHA regulations. |
| Peace of Mind |
Just knowing that you have eliminated an unsafe practice will bring you peace of mind. An employees family will also feel good, with less worry, as their family member goes to work each day, knowing that he or she will return home in the same condition as when they left. |
Company History:
On January 2, 1998, the warehouse supervisor of a lumberyard went out after his coffee break to prepare a center beam flat car for unloading. The weather was cold, and a light dusting of snow covered the yard. The sales supervisor completed some orders in the warehouse, and then went out to help with the job. Outside, he found his fellow worker lying facedown beside the railcar. An ambulance transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
John Oltrogge, president of Safety Solutions and inventor of the Cable Dominator, worked for the company that owned the lumberyard where the accident occurred. John had worked in the lumber industry for several years and had regularly climbed on top of railcars to unhook the cables. The death forced the company to confront the existence of dangerous practices and safety violations that were routinely carried out in its lumberyards. The company immediately banned the practice of climbing on railcars, but John felt their solution of sending employees up in a cage was impractical and unsafe as well.
John began testing prototypes of his invention, the Cable Dominator, which is an attachment that allows an operator to safely un-cable a railcar from the ground, while operating a forklift. In 1999, the system was perfected and John was awarded a patent for the Cable Dominator.
Today, the Cable Dominator is in use throughout the United States and Canada.
